The Hidden Cost of Parties
My daily weight, starting the day before last weekend's party and continuing
through today:

That's an EIGHT POUND GAIN owing to the party and its aftermath. I have weighed
174 before, but I've never weighed more.

Back to the rowing machine!

Fit a rolling weighted average to that sucker, or it means nothing other than "you have a lot of water/food currently working its way through your gut."

cf: http://www.fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/e4/signalnoise.html (the math will be trivially obvious to you; the pointer is mainly for your other readers)

Should I make a tsk-tsk noise and tell you that your fawning roman servant girls need to use more grapes and fewer chocolate bon-bons when hand-feeding you?

I hope the party was good, regardless. Just close your eyes and think of happy memories while you are on the rowing machine.

People often ask me if I have lost weight. I reply, "Yes, the same five pounds (188 - 193) over and over again."T

here is an adage--if you don't come back from a vacation (or a stay-cation in your case) either broke or 5-10 pounds heavier, you are doing it wrong.

It's all a matter of scale

(pun intended)

If you baselined your graph at zero it wouldn't look so dramatic. Unfortunately I cannot easily find the section in Tufte that describes this sort of presentation, but by picking the arbitrary baseline of 162 you've created a graph that makes it seem as though you've tripled some value (bar height of Thursday, left versus Wednesday) when in fact it has only increased by 4.8%.

I hope you wouldn't accept this sort of thing from one of your students (and that you have an easier time losing weight than I do :)

Clearly the message here is that you need to get more exercise at your parties.

To be honest, that didn't seem to be an issue...

Well, on the up side, at least you can now identify the different muscle groups of your body and exercise them more efficiently.

Good to know that you're in touch with your feminine side. Women go through this kind of weight swing ALL THE TIME! =}

That must be where [info]saetyr's 8 pounds went!
